More Women are Seeking Prenuptial Agreements
According to a poll by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which is comprised of 1,600 attorneys in the United States, prenuptial agreements are on the rise. In fact, of the lawyers polled, 73% reported that there was an increase in the demand for prenuptial agreements over the course of the past 5 years. Additionally, the attorneys said that there was a 53% increase in the number of women who were requesting prenups.
President Marlene Eskind Moses said, “Prenuptial agreements are becoming more generally accepted as an effective way to protect assets.” She also said that as people see that more individuals are marrying or remarrying in their later years, our society has become more concerned with protecting assets, such as pensions and retirement benefits in the event of divorce.
The poll also revealed that 80% of lawyers had seen an increase in the amount of evidence collected and used from social networking sites during cases involving divorce, separation and child custody.
