Candidate’s Bitter Divorce Battle Flaunted in Media
The Associated Press has revealed that allegations were made against a candidate for Congress, Dr. Scott DesJarlais. Supposedly, the candidate intimidated his wife with a gun during a bitter divorce battle. The news was announced during Tennessee’s 4th District campaign.
In response to the allegations, DesJarlais said that his opponent, Democratic incumbent Lincoln Davis, distorted the facts to distract attention from his own record.
Initially, the allegations of violence against DesJarlais were made by his former wife, Susan Elizabeth DesJarlais, in November 2000. Susan claimed that her husband’s behavior was violent and menacing. She said DesJarlais once held a gun to his mouth for over three hours.
In 2001, the judge that granted the couple’s divorce criticized both DesJarlais and his wife for poor conduct.
